domestics vs imports?...

hey what's up all,

maybe someone can enlighten me. i don't understand why domestic companies (i.e. ford, gmc...) and people who drive domestic vehicles (especially those that drive trucks and suv's) have such a problem when they see a JDM civic, or a prelude that's lowered and has and exhaust on it? why do they make it a point to bash and call em "rice rockets" (a racist term that i don't really care for). japanese cars have increasingly improven their technology and the power that their cars produce as well as creating more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles. domestics on the other hand seem to be utulizing the same technology they had 50 yrs ago, with little improvement. i don't mean this discussion to be a cuss to domestic automotive owners and industry, i just don't understand this seemingly "us" vs "honda/nissan/toyota" mentality?

domestics have always thought the idea that bigger is better. i think 4 bangers are way better. but imports are so much more reliable than domestics and they last so much longer too. i dont know why domestics are trying to rag on imports but to me, domestics SUCK! i think thats why they are trying to make some 4 banger cars now such as the srt-4 and the cobalt ss cause they realized that imports were wooping their asses in sales.

Oh my god.

Alright. Domestic cars in recent years have been just as reliable as comparable Japanese cars. Japanese cars and American cars are TOTALLY different from one another. A RWD V8 Chevelle has WAY more potential in a straight line than a Honda. Face it, that's the way it is. A lighter Honda has WAY more potential in autocross.

But keep in mind, by having threads like this, you are only fanning the fires of domestic vs. import hatred. We're all car guys. Get along. Seriously. :noo

I mean, it's the pot calling the kettle black when an import guy starts making fun of domestics and their drivers being boneheads. Be the bigger man. If theres a bonehead, ignore him/her. And to domestic guys, ignore the stupid ricers. Lets just all enjoy our cars.

its all those damn movies. people assume all import owners with exhaust or nay mods for that matter are copying them. thats all there is to it.

i love domestic power. and i love imports. but both do not even need tobe said inthe same sentance. though there are many imports that can beat the pants off a domestic. a 450whp civic is damn fast. a 800whp mustang is fast as hell. either way they are both fast cars.

if someone is making fun, just ask them, if they care about their car. if they do ask why you shouldn't about yours. thats what we do, we care and mod them to be better. domestic have their mods, we have ours. two completely different way you have to go about it.

just let it go

domestics vs. imports is like racism. Its a never winning arguement.

But, imo, people who voice their opinion about one is better than the other, are trying to compensate for something they're lacking. Don't agrue over anything, just try to have a mutual respect over different generations and try to appreciate cars for what they are. Just cars.

The sad part is, that for every fast import, there are at least a half dozen ricers and posers.

And the cheapest way to a 10-second car is a foxbody Mustang. The cheapest way to low times at an autox are a Miata. Everybody has their strong and weak points. Lets just love the cars. It's not worth debating, because there is no debate. There is no way to compare a FWD, 4-cyl Integra or whatever to a V8 RWD Nova. Period. The cars are apples and oranges.

But in all that you do, please do not bash domestics. And I tell domestic owners not to bash imports. Just appreciate a car for what it is and what it does.

true true. i just wanted to be informed on the matter. i had not intention of offending anyone. everyone has a reason for liking their particular car, whatever it may be.

since we are on domestics, i gotta GREAT STORY....

EHEM... it was a long long time ago... about 1 day ago, this guy that we call poliwog came in to a gas station i was hangin out at.... me and friend was buying lotto tickets... won 15 btw... anyways... poliwog came in and was like hey! if anyone wants $100 come with me. so i was the first one out the door, and was like what do i do, he said im gonna put a $100 bill on my dash, and when i shift into second, try and grab it. So, we took off, soon as he shifted into second, i was glued to my seat, i mean i was outa breath after about 30 seconds of trying. for the life of me, i couldnt reach the bastard!!!!!!! :bash so he said stop, and i stoped, and we went back to the gas station. So i asked him to pop the hood, he did, i looked under there, and it was a supercharged 350.... btw the car is an 90 something comaro... the car was damn crazy!!!! and he was like "wait till i get some nitrous..."

so thats one hell of a domestic for u guys....

but you gotta admit...the 100hp/litre theory is nothing to sneeze at in the world of imports, well hondas anyway. i mean the s2 is puttin out what...240?and that a 2.0? look at the h22s. theyre puttin out 200! look at the type r's. 195? thats fucking great imo.

i also have respect for most domestic cars. i however dont like the stupid effin "im too cool to hang with you cause i have an iroc and you have a 4cylinder" type of people.

anyway...you know what i saw the other day???it blew my mind. i saw a late 90's-ish grand prix at the mall on tuesday. this thing had spinner hubcaps (i thought the grand prix came with real wheels?) fake hoodscoops with carbon fiber vinyl on em (i could tell cause they must have ben primer color cause the vinyl was peeling), it had a "Type R" sticker on the back of it, the windows were diy tinted with all kinds of waves in them, it had a soupcan style muffler, some hideous wing...and heres the kicker, it had GT-R emblems on the fromt fenders by the front doors! i was thinkin to myself "rice???" then i did like a doubble take and realized it was american :bash . that shits just wrong imo

Don't mean to brag, but I make 150whp/liter (2.0) and its not a Honda. :)
